Asiapro aims for an IIP Certification
by Be M. Fojas
Asiapro recently formalized its intention to be Investors in People (IIP) certified. This will be another milestone for the Cooperative as it is the first attempt to benchmark itself against an internationally-based standard. The initial phase of the certification will cover all Asiapro members assigned to the support and operations groups nationwide.
The journey to become IIP-certified started a few years back when Gary Quemado, Asiapro President and General Manager was inspired by the success stories shared by reputable business organizations in the Philippines that went through the same certification process.
This new insight prompted Asiapro’s key leaders to evaluate how adopting the IIP standard can make a significant impact on its business results. Once convinced that the IIP certification could lead to improved performance, various initiatives were implemented: updated its mission, vision and values; performance management and development system; leadership development program; management development and succession planning; and formal induction program.
What is Investors in People (IIP)?
The IIP was introduced in 1991 and is being used as a business improvement tool. Its framework was developed in collaboration with leading businesses in the United Kingdom. It is recognized as a leading business improvement framework and quality standard and is the only one which is ‘people oriented’.
The IIP philosophy states that developing people’s contribution to the goals of the organization benefits the people themselves, their organizations and people outside the organization. It enables individuals to realize more of their potential, businesses to create more wealth through increased productivity and society as a whole to enjoy a higher standard of living.
