A series of branch assemblies were held this May and June in the respective areas of the branches: Cebu in the Visayas; in South Mindanao, Davao, Calinan and Panabo, General Santos, Kidapawan, Maragusan; and in North Mindanao, Cagayan de Oro, Medina, and Valencia, Malaybalay and Camp Phillips in Bukidnon.
Edmundo Castañeda, Asiapro Cooperative’s Chairman of the Board, went to Cebu and together with board members Rowena Gerozaga and Iris Corpus, journeyed the Mindanao region to be in attendance during these assemblies. Some local government officials also graced the occasion and acknowledged the major socio-economic development contribution that Asiapro Cooperative is providing to their respective localities.
What was presented and reported during the branch assemblies were the President’s Report, the Performance of 2009, Proposed Budget for 2010, and the respective Organizational Goals set for 2010-2011. The strategic business plans of the Asiapro Cooperative affiliates and divisions, namely Agrilogx and Memphis Trucking were also reported. These impact projects intend to double Asiapro Cooperative’s investment opportunities in year 2010.
The Chairman emphasized the value of upgrading the performance statistics of all its branches through management tools, monitoring and evaluation; and by providing quarterly incentives and performance bonuses. He further added that there is a need to continuously do these branch assemblies to be in tune with the worker-owners who create net surplus and income opportunities to the Cooperative organization; thus, making the Asiapro Cooperative relevant to the times.
An Open Forum was facilitated after the Chairman’s Report. Most of the concerns focused on the following: 1) update on the revolving fund, 2) processes of member-worker loan release, and 3) benefits of members such as insurance coverage of Meridian Insurance Company.
The visits may have been tiring in terms of travel. But it endeared and brought the Chairman closer to Asiapro worker-owners. According to Mr. Castañeda, his objective was to bring the face of Asiapro to its worker-owners in the field and to receive first hand information and immediate feedback. These branch assemblies are a quintessence of the cooperative general assembly. And it is always an opportune time for key stewards, represented by no less than the Chairman, to make its worker-owners feel that they are valued and that their individual opinions are respected.
The assemblies of worker-owners also served as a one-day-off-cum-team-building-session as it allowed them to have an enjoyable get-together and a break from their usual work engagement. Entertaining programs were organized for them and by them. Food and drinks were also prepared for the members to enjoy. Some even went a little extra by giving out Asiapro Cooperative button pins and t-shirts as memorabilia.
