UA&P-CRC invites Asiapro to its Workers Coop Seminar

Notable resource persons and discussants included leaders Mr. Edmundo Castañeda, Chairman of Asiapro Cooperative who talked about the Workers Cooperative Movement in the Philippines, and Asiapro Cooperative President Mr. Gabriel Quemado shared the Mondragon Corporacion Cooperativa best practices.  Asiapro Cooperative is the Philippines’ first, largest and leading worker cooperative that offers flexible, cost-effective, and socially responsible solutions to service contracting and outsourcing needs.

Philippine Government regulatory agency on cooperative, Cooperative Development Authority (CDA) was also present as Chairperson Hon. Lecira Juarez detailed Cooperative Code RA 9520


and the Implementing Rules and Regulations on Workers Cooperatives.

Special guest that delved on Beyond Compliance: Charity in Truth was Ms. Agnes Fernando of Canon Marketing Philippines. Mr. Bienvenido Nito, Director of CRC -Social enterprise unit discussed Social Teachings of the Catholic Church and the Workers Coop Model, while Coopworks Vice President, Mr. Robbie

Fabian facilitated the group discussion on the Issues and Challenges confronting the Workers Cooperatives; Summary and Next Steps.Workshop Moderators were Ms. Celia Guzman and Mr. Virgilio Hernandez of CoopWorks. Around 35 cooperative leaders and promoters attended the event, with the aim of fostering awareness on the workers cooperative model as a promising social enterprise; understanding social issues affecting workers’ productivity and how these can be addressed; finally, to encourage the coop sector to engage in future research projects along these lines.
